The inaugural Singapore Tennis Open (STO) 2025 officially kicked off with a dazzling Players’ Welcome Party, bringing together WTA stars, officials, and local culture in an unforgettable evening of glamour and rhythm. Organized by Kallang Alive Sport Management (KASM), the event set the stage for an exciting week of world-class tennis action.

Glamour Meets Tradition
Held on the eve of the main draw, the party saw WTA players like Ajla Tomljanović and Elise Mertens embrace the rich heritage of the region by donning the kebaya, a traditional South-East Asian garment recently added to UNESCO’s Intangible Cultural Heritage list. Adding to the lively atmosphere, local fusion percussion group Rhythm Masala delivered an energetic performance, with some players even trying their hand at traditional instruments—a vibrant showcase of culture and unity.
Guest of Honour Mr. Edwin Tong, Minister for Culture, Community and Youth & Second Minister for Law, joined in celebrating the event, marking an important milestone for Singapore’s tennis scene.
Thrilling Matchups Await
With a 32-player singles main draw and a 16-pair doubles draw, the STO promises high-stakes competition. Saturday’s draw ceremony revealed exciting first-round matchups, including top seed Anna Kalinskaya facing Caroline Dolehide and second seed Elise Mertens taking on Taylor Townsend, fresh off her Australian Open doubles triumph. Fans can also look forward to Emma Raducanu battling Cristina Bucșa in a highly anticipated showdown.
Tennis for Everyone
Beyond the main draw, the Singapore Tennis Invitational Cup will run alongside the STO on January 28 and from January 30 to February 1 at the Kallang Tennis Hub outdoor courts. Featuring regional talents from Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, and Cambodia, this invitational tournament offers free entry, making it an inclusive celebration of the sport.
The excitement extends off-court to the Fan Village, where interactive tennis-themed activities, meet-and-greet sessions with WTA stars, and tennis clinics led by the Singapore Tennis Association and ActiveSG Tennis Academy await fans of all ages. STO Community Ambassadors Tamarine Tanasugarn and Yayuk Basuki will also share their inspiring stories, further connecting the community to the sport.
