World leaders have extended their congratulations to former US President Donald Trump on his historic return to the White House, following his victory over Vice President Kamala Harris in the 2024 presidential election.

Trump’s win marks an unprecedented political comeback, as he becomes one of the few US presidents in history to regain office after a term away.

Trump surpassed the 270 electoral votes required to secure the presidency, and as of the latest count, he holds 295 electoral votes, solidifying his path back to the White House.

In Italy, Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni praised the “unshakable alliance” between Italy and the US, describing the two as “brother nations” bound by common values and historic friendship.

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer reiterated the importance of the “special relationship” between the US and the UK, emphasizing cooperation in security, technology, and shared values of freedom and enterprise.

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz similarly praised the strong US-German ties that have historically promoted prosperity and freedom, pledging to uphold this successful partnership for citizens’ well-being in both countries.

Beyond the G8, world leaders also welcomed Trump’s return as a positive signal for international relations.

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán celebrated Trump’s ‘enormous win’ on social media, calling it ‘the biggest comeback in U.S. political history’ and a ‘much-needed victory’ for the world.’

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu praised Trump’s victory, calling it the “greatest comeback.”

His message celebrated Trump’s win as a “powerful recommitment to the US-Israel alliance” and a new beginning for both nations.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy expressed support for Trump’s “peace through strength” doctrine, which he believes will support Ukraine’s quest for a “just peace.”

He recalled their recent discussions on Ukraine’s strategic needs in defending against Russian aggression, voicing optimism for the cooperation ahead.

Asia shows support for Trump’s victory, anticipating stronger regional ties

Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba extended his congratulations, underscoring the Japan-US Alliance as crucial to regional stability.

He expressed eagerness to collaborate closely with Trump to advance a Free and Open Indo-Pacific and strengthen bilateral ties.

Chinese President Xi Jinping also congratulated Trump, calling him on Wednesday to commend him on his electoral victory, CNN reported.

In a statement, the Chinese Foreign Ministry expressed respect for the American people’s choice, emphasizing that Beijing would continue to manage China-US relations based on mutual respect and cooperation.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi offered his “heartiest congratulations” to Trump in a Wednesday post, stating, “Looking forward to working closely together once again to further strengthen India-US relations across technology, defense, energy, space, and several other sectors.”

In Southeast Asia, leaders expressed optimism for strengthened US relations and stability under Trump’s leadership.

Singapore’s leaders have extended their congratulations to US President-elect Donald Trump, expressing confidence in his leadership and the future of US-Singapore relations.

Prime Minister Lawrence Wong congratulated Trump on 6 November, commending him for receiving an “overwhelming mandate” from the American people.

Wong expressed confidence that under Trump’s leadership, the US would continue to grow and maintain its global leadership role.

Separately, President Tharman Shanmugaratnam praised the “deep and enduring” US-Singapore relationship.

He acknowledged that Trump would lead a nation in need of healing, referring to divisions within American society.

Tharman also highlighted Trump’s commitment to working for “every citizen, their families, and their future,” expressing hope that America’s global role would continue to foster peace and prosperity worldwide.

Cambodia’s Senate President Hun Sen and Prime Minister Hun Manet also congratulated Trump, noting the upcoming 75th anniversary of Cambodia-US diplomatic relations in 2025 as an opportunity to strengthen bilateral ties.

Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto emphasized the strategic partnership between Indonesia and the US, pledging to work closely with the Trump administration on initiatives benefiting regional and global stability.

“Our strategic partnership holds immense potential for mutual benefit,” Prabowo said, affirming his intention to work closely with the new administration.

Malaysian Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim commended Trump’s political comeback and highlighted the US as Malaysia’s largest foreign investment source.

As ASEAN Chair in 2025, Malaysia hopes for renewed US engagement in Southeast Asia, particularly in promoting peace in conflict areas like Palestine and Ukraine.

“We look forward to working closely with the incoming president to foster mutual benefits for the people of both our nations.”

Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. praised the “unshakeable alliance” between the Philippines and the US, founded on shared values of freedom and democracy, and conveyed eagerness for mutually beneficial collaborations to enhance regional stability.

Thailand Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra shared her congratulations, expressing hope for strengthened US-Thailand ties and cooperation to support prosperity across the Indo-Pacific region.

His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah of Brunei also extended his warm congratulations, viewing Trump’s return as an opportunity for a renewed, positive relationship between the US and Brunei.
