The Workers’ Party (WP) has officially introduced its campaign slogan for the upcoming 2025 General Election: “Working for Singapore”.
This announcement came shortly after the Writ of Election was issued on 15 April 2025.
In a statement shared via social media, WP declared that while slogans may evolve over the years, the party’s mission remains consistent.
“The Workers’ Party prides ourselves on contributing to unity in diversity. Our voices aim to represent the diverse Singaporean population, while working towards a First World Parliament,” the statement read.
Calling on Singaporeans to “step up”, the WP emphasised the importance of continued citizen engagement and support.
“None of this could have happened without your continuous support. By making your vote count in 2020, we made history by having the highest number of opposition MPs in Parliament,” the party stated.
The WP highlighted its parliamentary progress over the past five years, stating that “constructive opposition” had influenced government policy and led to better outcomes for citizens.
“But the work is not done,” it added.
“We cannot stop here. We will continue to work for Singapore, and we hope you will step up and do so too.”
The party also released a teaser video featuring all eight of its current elected Members of Parliament.
The video closed with the campaign slogan and hashtags #StepUp and #WorkingForSingapore.
It featured Aljunied GRC MPs Pritam Singh, Sylvia Lim, Faisal Manap, and Gerald Giam; Hougang SMC MP Dennis Tan; and Sengkang GRC MPs Louis Chua, He Ting Ru, and Jamus Lim.
In the video, Gerald Giam stressed the need for a balanced political system, saying, “We cannot have one party that’s dominating everything in Singapore. There needs to be more diversity.”
Jamus Lim, an Associate Professor, stated that competition in ideas was essential for a healthy democracy. “That’s necessary and healthy for any mature democracy,” he noted.
Sylvia Lim posed a question to viewers: “If the PAP fails, what’s our Plan B?”
The video concluded with Pritam Singh describing Singaporeans as the “true agents of change,” asserting that WP is a platform to bring their voices into Parliament.
Following its performance in the 2020 General Election, WP remains Singapore’s most prominent opposition party, holding 10 parliamentary seats.
Its wins in Aljunied and Sengkang GRCs and the Hougang SMC marked a historic moment in opposition politics.
Pritam Singh, as WP’s secretary-general, was formally appointed Leader of the Opposition after the 2020 election.
He became the first to occupy the newly created role, which carries additional parliamentary privileges, resources, and responsibilities.
Workers’ Party expected to field record number of first-time candidates in GE2025
As speculation grows around the upcoming election, political observers suggest WP will field over 30 candidates—its largest slate to date.
This would surpass the 21 candidates it fielded in 2020 and introduce at least 17 first-time candidates.
If confirmed, it would break WP’s previous records of 16 newcomers in both the 2011 and 2015 elections and nearly double the nine new faces introduced in 2020.
The slate is expected to include the party’s seven incumbent MPs.
WP is anticipated to contest at least eight constituencies, including Aljunied, Sengkang, East Coast, MP-Braddell Heights, Tampines, and Punggol GRCs, as well as the single-member constituencies of Hougang and Tampines Changkat.
Its expanded presence in Tampines GRC forms part of a broader “Eastfront” strategy, aimed at building influence in eastern Singapore.
By contesting neighbouring wards, WP aims to maintain regional consistency and mitigate the effects of electoral boundary changes.
