The Workers’ Party (WP) unveiled three new potential candidates on 19 April 2025, continuing its multi-day rollout of fresh faces ahead of the upcoming General Election.

The announcement was made at a press conference by WP secretary-general Pritam Singh and party chair Sylvia Lim.

The three candidates introduced were Harpreet Singh Nehal, 59; Sufyan Mikhail Putra Mohd Kamil, 33; and Jasper Kuan Hon Whye, 47.

This brings the number of new WP candidates announced so far to 11, including earlier-introduced figures such as former diplomat Eileen Chong Pei Shan and Institute of Mental Health senior psychologist Ong Lue Ping.

At the same press conference, the opposition party reiterated its platform with the release of a 122-page manifesto. The document outlines WP’s key policy proposals and vision for Singapore in areas ranging from social equity to economic reform.

Harpreet Singh Nehal, a Senior Counsel, is managing partner at law firm Audent Chambers. He has held this role since 2019. He holds a Master of Laws from Harvard Law School and a Bachelor of Laws from the National University of Singapore.

He is also a father of four and sits on the Leadership Council of Asia at Harvard Law School.

Harpreet’s political involvement began around 2021, starting with Meet-the-People Sessions in Serangoon. Since August 2023, he has been engaged in house visits and sales of the party’s publication, Hammer.

Sufyan Mikhail Putra is a lawyer and former associate director at a community law firm. He specialised in conveyancing and corporate law before resigning to enter politics, citing the firm’s non-partisan stance.

He has been an active WP volunteer, contributing to policy development and assisting with parliamentary work. According to WP, he helped analyse legislation for Budget 2025 and the Committee of Supply debates.

Sufyan has also participated in community outreach, particularly in Punggol, where he was seen on house visits.

Jasper Kuan is currently Asia Pacific product lead for dispute solutions at Visa Worldwide. His professional background spans education and finance.

He began his career as a teacher at Catholic High School before moving into the banking sector, where he led the launch of OCBC’s youth-focused initiative, FRANK by OCBC.

Since the 2020 General Election, Jasper has been volunteering in Hougang. He assisted with Meet-the-People sessions and served as Legislative Assistant to Hougang MP Dennis Tan from 2021 to 2024.

He is also a father of three and continues to engage with grassroots activities.

The WP fielded 21 candidates in the 2020 General Election. While the party is expected to expand its reach, Pritam Singh stated on 18 April that WP will contest fewer than one-third of the 97 parliamentary seats in GE2025.

Party insiders and analysts previously told CNA that WP may field candidates in the newly created Punggol GRC, as well as traditional battlegrounds like Tampines and East Coast. This is in line with WP’s strategy to focus on Singapore’s eastern and northeastern regions.

Singaporeans will go to the polls on 3 May 2025, following the dissolution of Parliament by President Tharman Shanmugaratnam on 15 April. Nomination Day is set for 23 April.

WP is expected to continue introducing new candidates in the days leading up to Nomination Day, as part of its broader election campaign.
