SINGAPORE: A knife attack in Hougang has resulted in the death of a 34-year-old woman and left two others injured, including the suspected assailant.
The incident occurred in the late morning on 10 December at a hardware store located next to Kovan Market and Food Centre.
According to the police, the woman, believed to be an employee of the store, sustained multiple stab wounds during the attack and was later pronounced dead, as reported by 8World News.
A 26-year-old man, likely the store manager, was also injured and treated in hospital.
The 42-year-old suspect, believed to be a deliveryman and former employee of the store, was arrested at the scene.
He sustained injuries during the altercation and was conveyed to the hospital for treatment. The police stated that all three individuals are known to each other.
Witnesses reported hearing a loud argument just before the violence broke out.
The suspect reportedly brandished a knife in front of shocked onlookers. The confrontation escalated rapidly, with the female employee being stabbed repeatedly, while another male employee tried to intervene and was injured.
One witness, a department store worker, recalled hearing the argument followed by screams.
She said: “People told us to hide because a man had a knife. We stayed inside the shop until the police arrived.”
Emergency services responded promptly to the scene.
The Singapore Civil Defence Force conveyed two victims to Changi General Hospital, and the third to Sengkang General Hospital.
According to state media CNA, the man will be charged with murder on 12 December. If convicted, he could face the death penalty.
