“I think and truly believe that we are here today, we are able to enjoy sport and enjoy Olympics, it’s also because of their sacrifice. And I believe they deserve to be here today with me. And also they deserve to be with me in competition day.” “I really wanted to see him race today. It’s been an emotional morning. So — yeah. We have these rules in place to try and be fair, and also to try and allow for us to do both things: to allow for athletes to express themselves, but also to allow for athletes to be safe.” Reporter: “How did it feel not being able to compete?” “Terrible, so, you can imagine: I’m a professional athlete and I spent hours training every day for four years. Of course, as an athlete, I was always dreaming about Olympic medal, and it’s also a feeling that it was taken away from me.”
