Two Zika virus cases have been confirmed in Woodlands, specifically at Street 11 and Street 32, according to a joint Facebook announcement by the National Environment Agency (NEA) and the Communicable Diseases Agency (CDA) on 19 June 2025.
The NEA responded swiftly by launching wastewater and mosquito surveillance around the affected residential areas.
These efforts are part of its routine operations to limit the spread of vector-borne illnesses across Singapore.
Subsequent monitoring revealed continued Zika virus presence, suggesting potential transmission within the neighbourhood.
The NEA warned that the area may be experiencing ongoing Zika activity.
As part of preventive measures, the NEA employs gravitraps in Housing Board estates.
These traps target the Aedes aegypti mosquito, a species known for transmitting both Zika and dengue viruses.
According to NEA data, three local Zika cases have been recorded since the week of 25 May.
The most recent was confirmed on 11 June. A total of seven cases have been reported in 2025 as of 12 June, while 13 cases were documented in 2024.
The NEA advises those with symptoms such as rash, fever, or conjunctivitis to consult a doctor promptly.
The CDA notes that Zika infection poses significant risks during pregnancy, potentially resulting in neurological complications or microcephaly in infants.
