SINGAPORE: Two men were injured after getting into a brawl with two others at a coffeeshop in Bukit Panjang last Saturday (2 Aug).
They were believed to have been intoxicated at the time of the incident.
Video footage shared on Instagram by sgfollowsall shows two men lying on the ground while others strike them with plastic chairs.
The clip begins with two men — one in an orange T-shirt and the other in white — writhing on the floor, as two others, dressed in dark green and light yellow tops, repeatedly hit them with chairs.
Several bystanders intervene in an attempt to stop the violence.
A younger man in a singlet is seen removing the chairs, while another man repeatedly pulls the attackers back to prevent further strikes.
Despite these efforts, the two men in green and yellow tops remain aggressive.
As one is pulled away, the man in yellow attempts to strike the man in orange again but is stopped.
Instead, he kicks the victim in the face.
Both men on the ground appear to struggle to get up but remain down throughout the altercation.
Police and Ambulance Called
According to Shin Min Daily News, staff members said the fight involved a group of intoxicated men.
“These uncles looked like they were drunk, that’s why they started fighting,” one staff member said.
A customer reportedly called the police.
A Western food stall employee noted that officers remained on the scene for about an hour.
An ambulance was also dispatched, as the two men in orange and white T-shirts were bleeding from their mouths.
The man in white was described as a regular customer who usually visits in the evenings.
A fish soup stallholder, who has worked at the coffeeshop for three years, said that while drinking is common there, this was the first time she had witnessed a fight.
“There are usually a lot of uncles gathering here to drink, but I’ve never seen them fighting,” she said.
The Singapore Police Force confirmed it was alerted to the incident at about 8.10pm on 2 August at Block 257 Bangkit Road.
Two men, aged 57 and 65, sustained injuries but declined to be taken to hospital.
Police investigations are ongoing.
