Two men were arrested in separate drug raids on 9 January, resulting in the seizure of narcotics valued at over S$254,000, the Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB) announced on 10 January.
The confiscated drugs, including heroin and cannabis, could potentially feed the addiction of approximately 1,200 abusers for a week.
Singapore enforces stringent drug laws, with those convicted of trafficking over 15g of pure heroin or 500g of cannabis facing the death penalty.
In the early hours of 9 January, CNB officers forced their way into a residential unit in Upper Cross Street after a 59-year-old suspected drug trafficker refused entry.
The operation resulted in the seizure of approximately 1,965g of heroin, 118g of methamphetamine (Ice), two bottles of methadone, various drug utensils, S$32,378 in cash, and US$1 (S$1.37).
Later that morning, officers conducted a second raid at a residential unit in Pasir Ris Street 71, arresting a 50-year-old man. Around 1,378g of cannabis, drug-related equipment, S$7,594 in cash, and foreign currencies amounting to approximately S$434 were recovered.
The raids follow an earlier CNB operation on 4 January, during which narcotics worth over S$1 million were confiscated.
On 4 January, CNB officers arrested four Singaporeans—three men and one woman—in an operation in Cassia Crescent, Geylang. The arrests led to the seizure of heroin, methamphetamine, cannabis, Ecstasy, and Erimin-5 tablets.
The operation began with the arrest of two men, aged 27 and 25, in a carpark. A third man, also 25, attempted to flee but was apprehended after a brief pursuit. Authorities found a weapon in the possession of the fleeing suspect, which was later handed over to the police.
The 27-year-old suspect was found with 1,855g of heroin, 1,032g of Ice, 98g of Ecstasy tablets, and 300 Erimin-5 tablets. The 25-year-old companion was found with 136g of Ice and 21g of cannabis.
A subsequent raid on a nearby residence believed to be the 27-year-old’s hideout uncovered additional drugs, including 73g of Ice, 21g of heroin, 20 Erimin-5 tablets, and a small quantity of Ecstasy tablets. A 25-year-old woman was arrested in the residence for suspected drug abuse.
Serious consequences under Singapore law
According to CNB, the drugs seized in the 4 January operation could fuel the addiction of about 4,590 abusers for a week. The bureau reiterated that trafficking or preparing to traffic drugs is a grave offence under Singapore law.
Convictions for trafficking over 15g of pure heroin, 250g of methamphetamine (Ice), or 500g of cannabis can result in the mandatory death penalty.
