Two individuals have been arrested after a video showing a violent assault was posted online, the Singapore Police Force (SPF) announced on Wednesday (7 May).
According to the SPF, the video, which surfaced on social media on Tuesday at around 1.20 pm, depicted a man physically assaulting another man after a suspicious transaction.
In the footage, one man is seen handing over a plastic bag with “unknown content” to another individual, who subsequently passes it to the person recording the incident.
Following the exchange, the man delivering the bag is shown violently attacking the other, repeatedly punching him in the head and leaving him visibly injured, with a bloodied face.
Officers from the Central Police Division and the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) collaborated with the Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB) and the Singapore Prison Service to promptly identify both the victim and the suspects involved.
A police raid, conducted at Sengkang West Way, led to the arrest of a 31-year-old man and a 35-year-old woman.
The suspects were taken into custody on charges of voluntarily causing grievous hurt with common intention and suspected drug consumption.
Additionally, the man was arrested for possession of weapons. The police seized a range of items during the raid, including two machetes, one axe, a baseball bat, three mobile phones, cash exceeding S$3,000, 14 e-vaporisers, and more than 450 related components.
In a statement, the SPF underscored its zero-tolerance stance towards violent acts and criminal behaviour, noting, “The police and CNB have zero tolerance towards such brazen acts of violence and blatant disregard of the law. We will not hesitate to act against those who do so and will deal with them severely in accordance with the law.”
The authorities also reminded the public about the illegality of importing, distributing, selling, or offering for sale e-vaporisers and their components.
Under Singapore law, a person convicted of such an offence may face a fine of up to S$10,000, imprisonment for up to six months, or both, for a first offence. For repeat offenders, the maximum penalties double.
All prohibited tobacco items seized during the raid will be confiscated, the police confirmed.
The police have confirmed that investigations are ongoing to determine the full circumstances surrounding the assault and related offences. No further details have been disclosed at this stage.
