A New Era of Postal Convenience

Box 2

This pilot project aims to evaluate the operational cost efficiencies and carbon emission savings of using MRT trains for postal item collection. By integrating postal services within train stations, commuters will enjoy a more seamless experience, eliminating the need to visit post offices or courier collection points. Additionally, businesses near the rail network will benefit from convenient drop-off points, meeting the increasing demands of the eCommerce sector.

Pilot Details and Operations

The three-month pilot will involve pre-selected Mail Ambassadors who will use Tampines and Raffles Place MRT stations to transport postal items to SingPost’s sorting facility near Paya Lebar MRT station. This will occur daily, using the East-West Line between off-peak hours of 11 AM and 2 PM. Up to two Mail Ambassadors, identifiable by their SingPost uniforms, will perform these collections, travelling in familiar MRT cabins.

Expanding Postal Accessibility

In March 2024, SingPost introduced its first standalone POPStop at Tampines MRT station, enhancing commuter convenience with integrated parcel drop-offs and returns. Building on this, SingPost and Stellar Lifestyle plan to extend the trial to more train stations across all SMRT-operated lines, pending the pilot’s success. Future plans include determining additional locations for POPStops and service points to further benefit local communities.
