SINGAPORE:The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) and the Singapore Police Force (SPF) have reported disruptions due to Singtel’s latest outage on 8 October.
In a statement issued at 4:22 PM, both agencies acknowledged that the public is facing difficulties when trying to call 995 and 999.
They assured the public that they are collaborating closely with their service provider to resolve the issue as swiftly as possible.
Members of the public experiencing difficulties in reaching 995 or 999 are advised to send an SMS to SCDF at 70995 or SPF at 70999 instead.
“The safety and well-being of the public is our top priority. We will provide updates as more information becomes available,” the authorities stated.
In an updated post at 4:29 PM, Singtel confirmed that they are working urgently to implement workaround measures while they address the fixed voice service issue.
Singtel has apologised for the inconvenience caused and noted that all mobile and broadband services remain unaffected.
Earlier, multiple users reported that SingTel services are down.
Notably, KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital posted on Facebook at 3 PM that all of their phone lines are currently out of service due to a technical fault.
The hospital advised the public to email [email protected] for appointment matters.
Separately, at 5 PM, Changi Airport in a FB post reported that the island-wide telecom disruption has affected some landlines serving the airport, leading to slightly longer waiting times for callers.
However, customers can still reach Changi Airport through the hotline at 6595 6868, by using the chatbot on the Changi App, or via email at [email protected].
The airport apologises for the inconvenience caused.
A check on Downdetector revealed a surge in outage reports for SingTel starting around 2 PM.
According to the feedback on Downdetector, most of the problems faced by users pertain to landlines, which matches the responses from netizens on social media platforms.
This is a developing story.
