SINGAPORE: Singaporean actor-comedian Moses Lim (林益民) passed away on Tuesday, 11 February 2025, at the age of 75.

His death was announced in a post on his official Facebook page on Wednesday morning. The cause of death has not been specified.

The Facebook post paid tribute to Lim’s legacy, describing him as “one of Singapore’s most beloved entertainment icons” who “brought endless laughter and joy to generations of Singaporeans.” The statement added:

“His legacy lives on in every family dinner filled with joy, in every budding performer he inspired, and in his beautiful family who shared him with Singapore.”

Lim was best known for his role as Tan Ah Teck, the patriarch in Under One Roof, Singapore’s first English-language sitcom that ran from 1995 to 2003.

The show, which also starred Koh Chieng Mun, Vernetta Lopez, and Nicholas Lee, was a significant milestone in Singaporean television history.

Lim first gained prominence through the Chinese-language variety show Comedy Night, where his comedic talent made him a household name. Over the years, he moved effortlessly between English- and Chinese-language programming, showcasing his bilingual skills and comedic timing across different platforms.

The entertainment industry and fans have been paying tribute to Lim, remembering his contributions to Singaporean media and his warm personality. Many of his colleagues have highlighted his generosity in mentoring younger talents.

In 2018, Lim underwent heart surgery due to a blockage but experienced complications that took several months to recover from.

However, no details have been provided on whether his passing was related to past health issues.

Lim is survived by his wife Monica, daughters Grace and Angela, and four granddaughters—Cheryl, Claire, Leanne, and Kimberley.

The tribute post concluded with a farewell to his most famous role:

“Take your bow, Tan Ah Teck. You’ve given us the performance of a lifetime. A television icon, a devoted father, and a Singapore treasure. What a wonderful show it has been.”
