SINGAPORE, 13 JUNE 2025 – Singapore Women’s National Team Head Coach Karim Bencherifa has named a final squad of 23 players for the upcoming international friendly against 80th-ranked Hong Kong, China. The match will take place on Sunday, 15 June 2025 at Choa Chu Kang Stadium, marking the Lionesses’ first home international fixture of the year. Kick-off is at 5pm.
The same squad will also travel to Jordan next Friday, 20 June 2025, for the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Women’s Asian Cup Qualifiers in Amman.
Following an intensive centralised training phase, final selections were made after a closed-door training match against Hong Kong last night.
“Many of these players already bring valuable international experience to the team — including six who are currently based overseas. The group has shown strong cohesion and understanding, which puts us in a good position as we prepare for the challenges ahead,” said Bencherifa.
The squad is largely similar to the one that featured at the 2024 ASEAN Football Federation (AFF) Women’s Cup in Laos, with a few notable additions.
Among the newcomers who are looking for their first international cap are Still Aerion’s Nurul Unaisah and Albirex Niigata (S)’s Nurzaherra Maisarah, who have been included after strong showings in the Women’s Premier League (WPL) this season.
Balestier’s Sharifah Nur Amanina has also earned her first senior national team call-up. The teenager previously represented Singapore in teqball at the 2023 Southeast Asian (SEA) Games — where the sport made its debut as a demonstration event — and clinched a historic gold medal in the women’s singles category.
“It’s also encouraging to welcome back those who have worked hard to regain their place, and just as exciting to see new players stepping up. The competition for spots has been intense, and that’s something we welcome because it raises the overall standard of the team,” added Bencherifa.
“Our focus now is on sharpening our tactical approach and ensuring we’re match-ready – particularly integrating the six foreign-based players. The match against Hong Kong will be a good test for us to assess where we are and what we still need to improve on.”
Making her return is Lim Li Xian, who is back in the national fold after rejoining Tiong Bahru. Lim, 29, brings a wealth of experience with 29 caps and two goals for Singapore.
Danelle Tan also returns to the squad after missing last December’s AFF campaign, joining experienced players such as Lion City Sailors’ goalkeeper Beatrice Tan and Sailors midfielder Dhaniyah Qasimah, both of whom are also back after a brief absence.
One notable absentee from the squad is midfielder Putri Syaliza, who is currently with Oakland University in the United States and unavailable for this window due to personal commitments.
The squad includes familiar faces such as captain Rosnani Azman, forward Farhanah Ruhaizat, and defender Nurhidayu Naszri. They are joined by foreign-based players like Venetia Lim, who currently features for Eltham Redbacks in Australia’s National Premier League Women’s (NPLW) Victoria — a highly competitive league one tier below the Women’s A-League.
Also in the squad are five players on the Unleash the Roar! (UTR) overseas scholarship programme: Ardhra Arul, Chloe Koh, Yasmine Zaharin, and Kyra Taylor from the USA’s IMG Academy, along with Natasha Naszri from Spain’s La Liga Academy.
Tickets for this Sunday’s match against Hong Kong are available for purchase through Ticketek and the FAS official website (fas.org.sg/tickets).
