The Singapore Under-19 Women’s National Team is set to compete in the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Under-20 Women’s Asian Cup Qualifiers, which will take place from 6 to 11 August 2025. Drawn into Group B, Singapore will face Vietnam, the Kyrgyz Republic, and Hong Kong, China, in a qualifying tournament hosted in the Vietnamese capital of Hanoi.

In preparation for the tournament, the squad is in Malaysia for a training camp until 31 July. The camp is a key part of the team’s build-up, giving players the opportunity to work closely together in a focused environment.

“I’m really looking forward to the chemistry that naturally builds when players spend extended time together,” said Head Coach Fazrul Nawaz. “It’s not just about football we get to build trust, challenge each other, and create a shared identity.”

A number of players have already begun early training, and the signs have been positive.

“I’ve been encouraged by the energy and focus in the early sessions. Tactically, there’s a willingness to adapt and take in information quickly, which is vital at this level. But beyond that, it’s the spirit the way they push each other, the communication, the way they celebrate small wins,” said the former Singapore international.

“You can sense their hunger and a growing belief, and that’s a great starting point.”

The coaching staff’s focus is not only on preparing the players tactically, but also building the mindset and standards needed to perform at this level.

“This group has potential, and the goal is to translate that potential into consistent performances,” said Fazrul. “For the girls, I want them to gain confidence, take ownership of their roles, and show that they can compete.”

Defender Seri Nurinsyirah echoed the sentiments of her coach.

“It’s such a good experience to play at this level against strong opponents and learn from it,” said the 16-year-old who is coming off the inaugural girls’ tournament at the Lion City Cup, where Singapore’s Under-16s finished second behind Korea Republic.

“My target is to play my best and give 100 percent for every game and to try to at least win, even if it’s tough”

Looking ahead to the qualifiers, Fazrul’s aim is clear: to leave the tournament better than they arrived more united, more disciplined, and more confident.

He said: “If we come out of it fitter, sharper, tighter as a unit, and hungry to compete, I’d consider that a success.”
