MALAYSIA: A Singapore-registered vehicle has been impounded by Malaysia’s Road Transport Department (JPJ) for allegedly providing illegal cross-border transport services in Johor.
According to a Facebook post by the JPJ, enforcement officers were conducting a routine operation near the Sultan Iskandar Building (BSI) in Johor Bahru on Oct 23 when they stopped the vehicle for inspection.
At the time of the check, the car was being driven by a Singaporean man and had three Malaysian women as passengers.
JPJ stated that initial inspections revealed the vehicle did not have the necessary permit to operate cross-border services. It was also not registered as a public service vehicle in Malaysia’s MySIKAP system and had not paid Malaysian road tax.
Enforcement officers impounded the car and issued a summons to the driver.
The authorities stressed that they will continue to step up monitoring and enforcement in the Malaysia-Singapore border area to ensure that all cross-border transport activities comply with the law, citing the need to maintain public safety and traffic order.
