Singapore Archifest (SGAF) 2025 is entering its grand finale—and if you haven’t experienced it yet, now’s the time. Running until 27 July, the festival invites you to dive into the last 10 days of SGAF+, a curated lineup of free public programmes spotlighting Katong–Joo Chiat’s rich architectural heritage in celebration of SG60.

Organised by the Singapore Institute of Architects (SIA), this year’s festival has exceeded all expectations, with record participation across events like ArchiTours, Beyond the Facade: Secrets of Katong, and the popular Lighting Detectives series. Many of these tours sold out even after additional sessions were added, reflecting the community’s deep interest in exploring architecture through immersive storytelling.

Another standout was the YAL Human Narratives programme, which successfully bridged personal stories with urban design. And at the heart of the festival’s professional segment, the Singapore AF Conference and Expo (25–27 June) welcomed over 3,000 attendees and a stellar lineup of speakers, including Pritzker Prize winners Riken Yamamoto and Eduardo Souto de Moura, as well as cross-disciplinary creatives like fashion designer Samuel Ross and DJ Dean Chew.

One of the festival’s defining moments was the SG60 Architects Roundtable, which saw over 60 local architects—pioneers to rising stars—openly share unbuilt projects and future visions for Singapore in a rare, honest dialogue about the city’s design future.

Katong–Joo Chiat in the Spotlight

With support from the Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA), SGAF+ focuses this year’s celebrations on the Katong–Joo Chiat precinct—a vibrant district where heritage shophouses meet sleek modern structures. As part of URA’s Historic East Identity Corridor, the area exemplifies how Singapore’s 60-year evolution is reflected in architecture that both preserves history and welcomes innovation.

What’s Next: Public Art That Lasts

SGAF 2025 will extend its legacy into August with semi-permanent public installations across Katong–Joo Chiat. In collaboration with URA, SUTD, RSP Architects, and SAA Architects, the installations aim to activate public spaces and celebrate local stories. Look out for:

  • Trace and ArchiPavilion (already live)
  • Kueh Kueh at Katong, The Jetty, and Sit in with Tiffin (launching progressively from August)

These pieces will remain in the precinct for up to two years—continuing SGAF’s mission to bring architecture closer to everyday life.
