The Lions are boosted by inclusion of two experienced ASEAN championship winners in the form of Shahdan Sulaiman and Safuwan Baharudin – who has been given the green light by Selangor FC to join up with the Lions.

Safuwan is the only overseas-based player in the squad with the other 25 plying their trade in the Singapore Premier League (SPL).

“We are delighted to be able to include Safuwan on our Mitsubishi Electric Cup campaign and we are appreciative of Selangor who worked closely with us to release him for this tournament, which sits outside the FIFA window,” said Ogura.

“I would like to thank all 30 players who were part of the provisional squad for their contributions to our effort. Now, these 26 selected players are the ones who are charged with the responsibility of taking us into the tournament as we try to make Singaporeans proud.”

The Lions at the National Stadium, 14 November 2024.

The Lions begin their Group A campaign on Wednesday, 11 Dec when they host Cambodia at the National Stadium. That is followed by a trip to Vietnam to take on Timor-Leste on 14 Dec, and a home game against Thailand on 17 Dec before the group stage concludes with the Causeway derby as Singapore travels to Malaysia on 20 Dec.

The competition features 10 teams in two groups, with each team playing in a round-robin format. The top two teams from each group will advance to the semifinals.

In addition to Singapore’s other foreign-based players, the Lion City Sailors’ Song Uiyoung will not feature in the ASEAN Championship, due to personal reasons.

“Song has asked not to be considered for National Team selection because of family matters. All of us in the staff and the team are supportive of his request and we hope that he will be back in contention to don the Lions jersey in the near future,” said Ogura who has selected 11 players who are in an ASEAN Championship squad for the first time in their careers.

Rudy Khairullah, Jordan Emaviwe, Irfan Najeeb, Lionel Tan, Raoul Suhaimi, Ryaan Sanizal, Glenn Kweh, Kyoga Nakamura, Naqiuddin Eunos, Abdul Rasaq and Taufik Suparno will hope to leave their mark at Southeast Asia’s premier international tournament.

“All the work in the past few months was done in preparation for the Mitsubishi Electric Cup. It’s now time for our team to rise to the challenge and bring pride to Singapore. This will be a tough challenge and we hope that our supporters will come and help us turn the National Stadium into a fortress,” said Ogura.

Starting from $10, tickets for Singapore’s ASEAN Mitsubishi Electric Cup home matches are available for purchase via Ticketmaster (https://ticketmaster.sg/venues/national-stadium).  Fans are encouraged to use the promo code: ROAR24 to get discounts on their tickets.
