SINGAPORE: Train services on the Sengkang-Punggol Light Rail Transit (LRT) network resumed at 12.54pm on 15 Aug 2025 after being disrupted for more than three hours by a power fault, said operator SBS Transit in a Facebook update at about 1pm.

Jeffrey Sim, Group Chief Executive Officer of SBS Transit, said the incident began at about 8.40am, affecting all 29 stations on the network.

Preliminary findings suggest a cable fault between two stations tripped the system.

Sim noted that the LRT has been operating with only its main switchboard since an incident on 12 Aug damaged the back-up power switchboard.

Without the backup system, the cable fault caused a longer recovery time.

The fault left 10 trains stalled on the tracks. All passengers, including those using mobility aids, were safely disembarked before recovery works proceeded.

Power was progressively restored from 11.05am for the Sengkang LRT and at 11.20am for the Punggol LRT.

During the outage, free bridging and regular bus services were provided. Passenger service teams were deployed to assist commuters.

SBS Transit first announced the disruption at 8.55am.

The latest incident comes three days after a major disruption affected both the Sengkang-Punggol LRT and the North-East Line.

Acting Transport Minister Jeffrey Siow has described the recent spate of breakdowns across several lines as “disappointing”.

A video on TikTok showed commuters walking along the tracks during the disruption.

Several passengers expressed frustration online, with some criticising delayed announcements. One commuter said they waited over five minutes before hearing an announcement, which was made in the station rather than on board.

Another commuter questioned the lack of an immediate official statement from the Land Transport Authority, calling for more transparency on technical issues.
