Albirex Jurong held firm at the top of the 2026 Women’s Premier League (WPL) standings with a 2-0 victory over Lion City Sailors at Choa Chu Kang Stadium on Friday (13 March), to remain the only WPL side with a perfect record six games into the season.

The Sailors were the brighter side in the opening half and had three golden opportunities to take the lead. Umairah’s free kick nearly crept in before goalkeeper Talia Sachet tipped the ball away, while Farah Nurzahirah’s rebound effort – after Talia parried Nur Ain Salleh’s shot –drifted just wide. The Sailors’ best chance to wrest control came in the 33rd minute when Ami Takeuchi’s powerful strike rattled the underside of Talia’s crossbar and stayed out.

Those missed chances proved costly. Albirex took control after the break, with Riho Katayama powering home a header from Manami Fukuzawa’s cross in the 51st minute. The lead was doubled almost immediately when Ruriko Takashima — now on 21 goals for the season — curled a precise free kick past Izairida Shakira to seal the points.

Albirex now sit three points clear at the summit, with their title defence firmly on track.

BG Tampines put six past Hougang United to climb the table

BG Tampines 6-0 Hougang | Choa Chu Kang Stadium | 14 March
(Victoria Hudson 8’, Shazana Ashiq 39’, Sharifah Amira 48’, Nahwah Aidilreza 52’, 90’+4, Nursabrina Iskandar Shah 64’)

BG Tampines Rovers registered back-to-back wins in emphatic fashion, routing Hougang United 6-0 to climb to fifth in the nine-team Women’s Premier League (WPL) standings.

The breakthrough came early, in the eighth minute. Shazana Ashiq tested Hougang’s Tay Siew Yin with a shot that was initially caught but spilled, and Victoria Hudson reacted quickest to tap home her fifth goal of the season.

Both sides had their moments in the following spell without adding to the scoresheet, before BG Tampines extended their lead in the 39th minute. A cross from Lucinda Ratcliffe on the right found Shazana, who added a goal – her first of the season — to her record after earlier playing a part in the opener.

BG Tampines continued to control matters after the break. Sharifah Amira struck a 48th minute direct free kick that sailed over the defensive wall and beyond the goalkeeper for their third of the evening.

Four minutes later, Nahwah added a fourth goal with a powerful right-footed strike from 40 yards, the move initiated by Victoria Hudson, who played in Shazana before a quick one-two released Nahwah to finish.

BG Tampines’ fifth came in the 64th minute when Victoria drove towards goal and drew Siew Yin out, but Nursabrina read the situation well to collect the loose ball and finish for her first of the season.

Victoria then turned provider in four minutes into stoppage time, flicking the ball into Nahwah’s path to exploit the space in behind the Hougang defence, with Nahwah calmly slotting home to complete the rout.

Hougang showed glimpses throughout, with Park Claire putting in a tireless shift on the left flank and Grace Monago testing BG Tampines with a strike in the 65th minute, but the Does ultimately proved too strong on the night.

The lead was doubled in the 11th minute when Lily Clayton caught Tiong Bahru goalkeeper Larissa Ortmann off-guard with a curling effort that turned in the air and crept just past Ortmann’s outstretched hand.

Tiong Bahru refused to be swept aside, and their resilience showed in the 55th minute. Nurzaherra Maisarah launched a high ball to Lim Li Xian, who outpaced two Geylang defenders and showed sharp instinct to finish as the goal opened up in front of her.

The response from Geylang was swift, however, as Nasriah scored her second just two minutes later — after her corner was cleared by Tiong Bahru captain Lee Lai Kuan, Nasriah collected the loose ball outside the box and curled it into the corner.

Geylang pushed on in the final quarter, with Farhanah adding a fourth from a free kick in the 75th minute before 16-year-old Imarsha Peer Ali capped a lively cameo with a sliding finish from a long ball five minutes later.
