Balestier make it two in a row, clinch first clean sheet
Hougang 0-4 Balestier | Choa Chu Kang Stadium | 13 February
(Hannah Teo 6’, 43’, Lavanya Gurunathan 71’, Sofea Ayu 90’)
Balestier Khalsa secured back-to-back victories in the Women’s Premier League (WPL) with a disciplined showing against Hougang United, coming away with a 4-0 win as they also recorded their first clean sheet of the season.
17-year-old midfielder Hannah Teo once again proved influential, setting the tempo with two pinpoint long balls in the 8th and 43rd minutes that stretched Hougang’s defence and sparked Balestier’s attacking momentum. Substitute Lavanya Gurunathan made an immediate impact in the 71st minute – just seven minutes after her introduction – bursting through to shrug off two Hougang defenders, rounding the onrushing goalkeeper and calmly slotting home for her first WPL goal of the season.
Balestier captain Sharifah Nur Amanina provided the assist in stoppage time, whipping in a precise cross from the right for 15-year-old midfielder Sofea Ayu to wrap up an important win.
