As the first model in Canon’s new video-centric V series, the PowerShot V1 combines portability with professional-grade features, making it an ideal tool for vloggers, livestreamers, and digital storytellers. This is a welcome gear for content creator, especially those who travel frequently and find it a hassle to bring around bulky equipment everyday.

The PowerShot V1 is equipped with a 22.3-megapixel 1.4-inch type CMOS sensor, significantly larger than the 1-inch sensors commonly found in compact cameras.

This upgrade allows for improved low-light performance and higher-quality imagery, both in video and still photography.

During video recording, the camera offers a 17-52mm equivalent focal range, while stills shoot at 16-50mm, providing versatility for everything from wide-angle vlogs to tighter framed content.

Below are some test still shoots taken with the PowerShot V1:

One of the most notable features of the PowerShot V1 is its built-in cooling fan, a rarity in compact cameras but common in professional cinema gear. This allows for extended recording and livestreaming sessions without overheating, a clear advantage for creators who produce long-form content or host live events.

The camera also introduces a new Subject Tracking IS function, which uses subject positioning to enhance stabilisation and keep moving subjects sharp and centered. This, combined with Canon’s reliable Dual Pixel CMOS AF II system, ensures smooth and accurate autofocus even in dynamic shooting scenarios.

Video capabilities are robust, supporting 4K UHD recording at up to 30p and cropped 4K at 60p, along with Full HD high-frame-rate options for slow motion.

The inclusion of 10-bit Canon Log 3 provides greater dynamic range and flexibility in color grading, appealing to creators who require more advanced post-production control.

Despite its compact form, the PowerShot V1 does not skimp on connectivity. It supports USB-C streaming, turning the camera into a plug-and-play webcam, perfect for remote interviews or live broadcasting. Bluetooth and Wi-Fi compatibility also allow for seamless transfer and remote control via the Canon Camera Connect app.
