For foodies in Singapore, the hunt for Michelin-recognised hawker food often involves travelling across the island, braving long queues, and hoping your chosen stall has not sold out. Hawkers’ Street has radically simplified that quest with its spectacular new flagship outlet in the basement of Tang Plaza on Orchard Road, which officially opened on 18 August.

We got a preview during a lunch tasting, and the first thing that strikes you is the scale and ambition.

Beyond just being another food caurt, it is carefully curated as a culinary destination showcasing a record six Michelin Bib Gourmand and Plate awardees, all making their Orchard Road debut.

The response is overwhelming so far. During our visit, the place was already packed to the brim with both local and foreign foodies, a clear sign of the excitement. A friendly tip, if you want to avoid the biggest crowds, try visiting just before or after the standard lunch and dinner rush hours for a more relaxed experience.

Dash to Cart

The star-studded line-up is a who’s who of Singapore’s hawker aristocracy.

Fei Fei Roasted Noodle brings its legendary charcoal-roasted meats and shrimp wonton noodles, a dish so popular it often sells out by midday at their original stall. Judging from the long quue, this is clearly the star draw. We tried it and it is so good, just like the original stall.

The comforting bowls of Tai Seng Fish Soup, a third-generation family business, offer a rich, savoury broth that is both light and deeply flavourful. Fish Soup is a main staple for any food court looking to draw in the lunch crowd and this was put into consideration by Hawkers’ Street to ensue they bring in one of the very best.
