[Review] BOMUL Samgyetang Brings Singapore’s Largest Range of Korean Organic Chicken Soups to CHIJMES

The duo, who have been friends for 18 years, has curated Singapore’s largest range of organic ginseng chicken soups with 10 variations tailored to support health goals ranging from anti ageing to vitality.

We dropped by to see if the food lived up to the hype and the waiting line.

The menu features variations of the iconic soup using premium local organic free range spring chickens. The result is meat that is incredibly tender and tears apart easily with just a spoon across all the dishes we tried.

Our personal favourite was the Rejuvenation Samgyetang ($36).

Infused with aged black garlic, the soup carries layers of caramelised depth and a distinct aroma that sets it apart from standard herbal soups.

For those who love a kick, the Spicy Cure ($32) is a must try.

Despite the intimidating name, it is not as scary as it sounds. The broth features extra spicy chili pepper, chives, and enoki mushrooms which add a satisfying crunch and heat. It is the kind of soup you can drink continuously, as the flavour grows fonder with each spoonful and becomes quite addictive after a while.

On the other end of the spectrum is the Energy Samgyetang ($36), which features the subtle and nutty flavors of Korean perilla. This broth is very rich, filling, and perfect for those who enjoy earthy profiles.

While the focus is on the chicken soup, the restaurant serves a curated selection of Korean side dishes too.

The Duck and Chicken Ddukgalbi ($22) serves up tender duck and chicken breast paired in a Korean style burger patty, glazed with a savoury sweet sauce and topped with crushed peanuts.

However, the surprise hit at the table was the humble Seafood Pancake ($25). This savoury pancake is generously filled with fresh seafood and fried to a perfect crisp. Even picky eaters like my son Asher, who usually avoids this dish, ate a lot of it. The appeal likely lies in how crisp it is and the fact that the ratio of seafood to batter is well balanced and distributed evenly throughout the pancake.

To finish the meal, we tried the Bomul Ice Cream ($6).

We loved both the Signature Black Sesame and the Ginseng flavours. The ginseng version is particularly unique and worth a try, especially since it is considered good for your health.

Given the quality of the food and the reasonable pricing, it is clear why the place is still packed. If you plan to visit, be sure to head down early to beat the queue.

Note that they do not accept reservations and is a walk in only restaurant.
