Red Dot United (RDU) has raised an urgent safety concern regarding a slope failure at a hillside forest along Bukit Batok West Avenue 2. The site is located opposite the Civil Service Club and adjacent to a well-used park connector.
The area in question lies within the newly delineated Jurong East–Bukit Batok Group Representation Constituency (GRC), where RDU is actively engaging with local residents. According to a post published by RDU on 24 March 2025, a resident had initially alerted the party to the issue during their community outreach the previous Sunday.
In its post, RDU stated, “We visited the site multiple times and spoke to nearby residents and park users. They have expressed concerns over the safety of the slope and the visible deterioration of the soil conditions.”
RDU explained that while the base of the slope has been cordoned off, it observed that further precautionary measures had not been implemented. These include wider cordoning, canvas sheeting to prevent erosion, and the installation of public safety signage.
The party wrote to the Singapore Land Authority (SLA) and the National Parks Board (NParks) via email to express these concerns. The email, dated 24 March 2025, was titled “Urgent Concern: Slope Instability at Bukit Batok West Ave 2” and detailed observations made during site visits over two days.
RDU noted the slope’s proximity to both a residential estate and the park connector, and questioned whether recent construction activity in the vicinity could have impacted slope stability. They requested clarification on whether construction assessments had been carried out before work commenced.
The party’s email also called for a full assessment of the slope’s condition and an outline of both immediate and longer-term safety measures to be taken. They stated they were available to attend any site inspection initiated by the authorities.
As of 29 March 2025, The Online Citizen (TOC) understands from RDU that they have not received any reply from SLA or NParks regarding the matter.
The issue appears to have sparked concern among the local community. One resident, when approached for comment, said, “I appreciate RDU for speaking up for us.”
In its public statement, RDU also drew attention to its Shadow Budget 2025 proposal, which includes a commitment to sustainable urban development. The party’s platform advocates for the preservation of green spaces, brownfield redevelopment, and increased transparency in land-use decisions.
“We seek clarification on the potential impact of nearby construction activities around Bukit Batok hillside park area,” RDU noted, linking the incident to broader planning and environmental considerations.
The incident follows a period of heavy rainfall, which may have contributed to the slope instability. However, RDU’s call for an investigation into nearby development suggests concern over additional contributing factors.
The park connector near the affected slope is reportedly frequented by joggers, cyclists, and residents on daily walks. The lack of comprehensive safety barriers and signage has increased public anxiety, according to RDU’s account.
As of this report, no formal statement has been issued by NParks or SLA in response to the concerns raised.
