Punggol GRC is without question one of the most hotly watched, followed and contested constituency in this General Election and the answers are obvious.
Gan Kim Yong (GKY) is not only a Deputy Prime Minister, he is also the Trade and Industry Minister and the Chairman of the Monetary Authority of Singapore, among others.
I am definitely impressed with his credentials and I believe that many people are similarly too but in the deepest bottom of my heart, I also know that throughout history, absolutely nobody is indispensable, not kings, not queens, not sultans, monarch, presidents, prime ministers or even paupers etc. Absolutely nobody!
All of history’s so called indispensables are either at the cemeteries, graveyards or crematoriums everywhere etc.
On the other hand, Senior Counsel Harpreet Singh is almost a godsend for the opposition and maybe even for Singapore, to say the least.
To me, if GKY were to lose in his electoral contest in Punggol GRC and any right thinking Singaporean would not want to lose such a person in government, I will put the blame squarely, 100% of it on the pap government for their backfired strategy. Let me explain.
Given that GKY is such a heavyweight cabinet minister and instead of letting him stay put and safe in his Choa Chu Kang GRC, the government has and I believe that they intentionally fielded him in Punggol GRC to force the voters there into a Go For Broke dilemma and decision.
So, what is Go For Broke? Simply explained, it means either you win everything or you lose everything. Go for broke is a common gambling tactic that many gamblers use. It is likely to be a very close, kind of touch and go result at Punggol.
In conclusion, if GKY prevails there, all will be fine and good but if he loses and the pap is weakened to whatever extent, the blame must fall squarely on themselves.
Think.
