Growing Healthier Communities Through Sustainable Gardening

At the heart of the partnership is Healthy Harvest, a new initiative that establishes edible and therapeutic community gardens in Telok Blangah and West Coast. Designed to bring together seniors, youth, persons with disabilities, and nearby residents, the programme encourages participants to grow their own produce, adopt healthier eating habits, and engage in shared environmental activities.

Funding for the initiative will be supported by the SG Eco Fund and Prudence Foundation, enabling more residents to take part in sustainability-focused projects and workshops.

The collaboration will also see environmental sustainability content incorporated into Prudential’s youth community programmes, as well as engagement with Prudential’s clients and partners to better connect them with SG Eco Fund grant recipients and sustainability efforts.

The partnership kicked off with the launch of a rooftop edible garden at Telok Blangah Street 31. The event was officiated by Ms Rachel Ong, Adviser to Tanjong Pagar GRC Grassroots Organisations, who joined volunteers in harvesting produce to distribute to nearby residents.

Healthy Harvest aims to deliver both environmental impact and community well-being through:

  • Hosting hands-on workshops for over 1,000 participants, including Prudential staff, representatives, and customers

Inclusive, Accessible Green Spaces for All

Managed by social enterprises Farmilysg (Telok Blangah) and City Sprouts (West Coast Park), the community gardens are designed to be inclusive and welcoming to participants of all abilities. Features include wheelchair-accessible raised beds, structured workshop areas, and spaces for therapeutic gardening.

  • Telok Blangah Garden (185 m²) features modular beds, vertical A-frames, composting activities, and regular fresh produce distribution at local community events.
  • West Coast Park Garden (50 m²) incorporates greenhouse plots, hydroponic systems, and hands-on gardening activities suitable for seniors, families, and persons with disabilities. Students with autism will also participate in repetitive gardening tasks that can support motor skills and emotional well-being.

The gardens form part of Prudential’s SG60 community investment initiative, commemorating Singapore’s 60th birthday and Prudential’s office relocation to Labrador Tower. In line with this, Prudential will expand its community investment this year from $880,000 to $1,000,000, with part of the increased funding channelled toward programming and activities in the new gardens.
