SINGAPORE: A fallen platform screen door at Braddell MRT station disrupted north-bound travel on the North-South Line around midday on Wednesday (16 April).
SMRT reported the incident at approximately 11.15am in a Facebook post, confirming the door had collapsed onto the track.
As a safety measure, the affected platform was cordoned off, and traction power was turned off to allow for recovery operations.
SMRT staff responded immediately at the scene, and engineers were deployed to manage the situation.
Although train services continued in both directions, commuters were informed to expect an additional 15 minutes of travel time.
To alleviate commuter inconvenience, shuttle train services were activated between Bishan and Toa Payoh in both directions.
Free bus services were also offered between Toa Payoh and Bishan towards Jurong East.
By 12.40pm, SMRT provided an update stating that normal train operations had resumed and bus bridging services were withdrawn.
No injuries were reported in connection with the incident.
Social media users reported that some trains travelling southward reversed direction near Bishan MRT station.
SMRT reiterated in a subsequent update at 12.23pm that traction power had been cut temporarily to ensure the safe removal of the fallen screen door.
The cause of the platform screen door’s collapse has not yet been disclosed.
Authorities have not indicated whether further checks will be carried out on similar infrastructure at other MRT stations.
