Thousands adorned in pink gathered at Hong Lim Park on 28 June 2025 to celebrate the 17th edition of Pink Dot SG, Singapore’s annual rally in support of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer (LGBTQ+) community.
Themed “Different Stories, Same Love”, this year’s event highlighted the community’s shared hopes for a more inclusive and accepting future.
Despite afternoon rain showers, spirits remained high as attendees filled the park with vibrant pink outfits and heartfelt messages. Families, friends, and allies picnicked on mats, children played with balloons, and pet dogs mingled freely. The atmosphere underscored the rally’s aim to create a safe and joyful space for all.
A notable feature of this year’s event was the sealing of a time capsule containing nearly 70 items contributed by members of the LGBTQ+ community and their supporters.
According to Pink Dot organisers, the capsule will be opened in 2050, symbolising the aspirations of future generations.
Items included a chest binder passed along during a gender journey, a phone pouch from the early days of Oogachaga’s counselling hotline, and a marriage certificate from a couple who wed in San Francisco.

Bhaskaran and his partner Sam contributed their marriage certificate along with a set of cutlery. The latter symbolised Bhaskaran’s mother’s gradual journey towards accepting Sam, demonstrating how personal items can represent powerful stories of love and change.
Other contributions included a headdress from drag artist Opera Tang, styled together with her grandmother in a quiet act of support. Tang’s story emphasised the often unspoken yet deeply meaningful ways in which family members express love.
The final item sealed in the capsule was a photo capturing the crowd at Speakers’ Corner, serving as a collective snapshot of the community’s resilience and unity.
The event was also attended by politicians, marking a continued shift in Singapore’s socio-political landscape. People’s Action Party (PAP) MPs Alex Yeo and Ng Shi Xuan engaged openly with attendees.
Yeo described the LGBTQ+ community as an integral part of Singapore’s social fabric, while Ng emphasised the importance of open dialogue for greater understanding. Workers’ Party MPs He Ting Ru and Louis Chua were present as well, although they declined to speak with the media.
Attendees spoke of a growing sense of acceptance in recent years. Despite these positive strides, some acknowledged that challenges remain.
Pink Dot spokesperson Clement Tan summarised the event’s spirit, stating, “This time capsule serves as a reminder of the love and resilience that has carried us this far. We want to send a message of hope to future Singaporeans: that all forms of love are valid and should be celebrated equally.”
The rally concluded with the formation of the iconic Pink Dot, as attendees shone pink lights into the night sky, symbolising solidarity and hope. As the community looks towards 2050, the messages and mementoes sealed this year serve as a powerful testament to their ongoing journey towards greater equality.
