Pharrell Williams and adidas Drop the VIRGINIA adistar Jellyfish in Bold Orange - Alvinology

A reimagined take on the classic adidas adistar, the Jellyfish merges performance heritage with sculptural lifestyle design, balancing utility with imagination. The sneaker’s exaggerated midsole echoes the fluid gills of a jellyfish, while a layered mesh upper and exoskeletal detailing bring depth and futuristic movement. Subtle “Jellyfish” and “VIRGINIA” branding on the tongue and insole root the design in Pharrell’s personal creative world, where VIRGINIA represents more than a place, it’s a mindset.

Between Land and Sea: A Conceptual Campaign

To launch the sneaker, Pharrell and adidas created a campaign set in a fictional coral reef, drawing from vintage dive aesthetics and National Geographic’s visual language. Centered on Divers captivated by jellyfish, the imagery highlights the creature’s ethereal beauty and quiet resilience, while also reflecting on the fragility of Earth’s marine ecosystems without disrupting actual habitats.
