SINGAPORE: People’s Power Party (PPP) founding Central Executive Committee (CEC) member Lee Wai Leng has passed away at the age of 47.
The alternative party announced her death in a Facebook post on 5 June 2025, expressing “great sadness and a heavy heart” over her passing.
PPP secretary-general Goh Meng Seng paid tribute to her as a “dedicated democratic warrior” who began serving the nation and society at a young age.
Goh said Lee was actively involved in the Democratic Socialist Club during her undergraduate years at the National University of Singapore.
At 27, she contested the 2006 General Election under the Workers’ Party banner in Ang Mo Kio GRC, and was noted for her strong Mandarin-speaking abilities.
Though not always at the forefront, Lee continued to support opposition efforts, contributing behind the scenes during and between election periods.
She authored numerous political articles, served as Master of Ceremony (MC) during the 2011 General Election for the National Solidarity Party and again in 2015 for PPP rallies.
In 2015, Lee was among the ten founding members who helped establish the PPP.
Goh said, “We will always remember her tremendous contributions for the past decades in every major way.”
He also said the progress of Singapore’s democratic development was built on sacrifices by people like Lee.
Her wake is being held at Block 467A Fernvale Link from 5 June to 8 June. The funeral cortège will depart on Sunday, 8 June 2025, at 11.30am.
PPP extended their condolences to Lee’s family, including her husband Ong Wee Teck.
The PPP did not disclose the cause of Lee’s passing in its announcement.
