Trade unionist Natasha Choy has been introduced as the newest addition to the People’s Action Party (PAP) team in West Coast GRC. She is currently working alongside National Development Minister Desmond Lee.
Choy, who is in her 30s, was seen participating in a community event at Jalan Mas Kuning on 2 April. The estate, located off Clementi Avenue 2, falls within West Coast GRC.
Lee, a Member of Parliament for the area, told reporters that Choy, who is Director (Youth Development) at NTUC, has recently joined his team.
“She’s an active member of NTUC, a trade unionist, and she’s coming here to learn about the community, and initiatives that we have rolled out,” he said.
According to Straits Times, Lee added that the party hopes she will contribute to programmes on active ageing, youth engagement, and community bonding.
Her involvement is also expected to support infrastructure improvements across the constituency and its adjoining areas.
Though Choy has not spoken to the media, her presence at community events since mid-February signals growing involvement in grassroots activities.
The move comes as West Coast GRC prepares for significant changes following the release of the Electoral Boundaries Review Committee’s report on 11 March.
Under the new delineation, the constituency will absorb parts of Jurong GRC and be renamed West Coast-Jurong West GRC. This enlarged five-member group representation constituency (GRC) will include 158,581 voters—up from 144,516 in the 2020 General Election.
In contrast, HarbourFront and Sentosa, currently under West Coast GRC, will become part of the new Radin Mas single-member constituency. Meanwhile, Dover and Telok Blangah will merge with Tanjong Pagar GRC.
During the last general election in 2020, PAP narrowly retained West Coast GRC with 51.68 per cent of the vote. The opposition Progress Singapore Party (PSP) had mounted a strong challenge, led by former PAP stalwart Tan Cheng Bock.
PSP team members from that election, including Non-Constituency MPs Leong Mun Wai and Hazel Poa, have been active in the area in recent months. Their continued presence hints at another closely contested fight in the coming polls.
The seat was formerly held by former Transport Minister S Iswaran, who resigned in January 2024 after being convicted in a corruption case. He was sentenced to 12 months’ imprisonment and is currently serving home detention.
The PAP has not yet officially announced its full slate for the newly formed West Coast-Jurong West GRC. However, Desmond Lee is expected to be joined by Shawn Huang, the Senior Parliamentary Secretary for Education and Finance.
Huang currently oversees the Taman Jurong and Jurong Spring wards—both of which are now part of the new constituency.
Another name being mentioned is Hamid Razak, an orthopaedic surgeon who has been active in community work in Jurong Spring. He is widely anticipated to make his electoral debut.
Other existing MPs in West Coast GRC include Foo Mee Har and Ang Wei Neng. Both have served three terms and have been involved in various local initiatives.
Singapore’s next general election must be held by November 2025. However, there is mounting speculation that it could be called earlier, possibly in early May.
