Unless you've been living under a rock, you'll know that Moo Deng has achieved some stardom that only nice characters can have. And they are definitely adorable! This baby pygmy hippopotamus was born in July this year at Khao Kheow Open Zoo in Thailand, and has captured hearts – as well as TikTok and IG reels – all over the world. Moo Deng, whose name means 'bouncy pork', has achieved S$470,000 worth of ticket sales in less than three weeks since going viral!
Not surprisingly, this sassy little hippopotamus has also inspired a host of skits and memes about interwebs. (It reminds us of that time when Squid game She broke the Internet with her memes.) Here are some funny and adorable memes of everyone's favorite little pygmy hippopotamus that have been floating around:
While Moo Deng's first clip was released in late July 2024, she had already reached global stardom when the hashtag #MooDengwillbounce emerged. Of course, with her adorable antics and penchant for biting knees, she's made her way into our hearts.
Thanks to its popularity, accommodation options have flourished around the zoo, with fans spending the night so they can see them early in the morning. Fans can also get the Zoo's Annual Pass, which allows unlimited admission for up to four people throughout the year. However, Khao Kheow Zoo is now open Worried About Mo Ding's safety, and limiting visiting hours to weekends.
Moo Deng is a celebrity endorsement
It's no surprise that brands are jumping on the bandwagon to capitalize on Moo Deng's popularity. These days you'll also find makeup tutorials to look like the little starlet — you know, the pink blush and gray eyeshadow in Dewey's wet look. TikTok is full of videos of people making themselves look like baby hippopotamuses. Even the Sephora ad featuring the little hippopotamus doesn't help.
Moo Deng was also restricted for some safety announcements! Halfway around the world in Texas, she became a curvy and sassy safety ambassador:
It has its own live broadcast
Its hippopotamus roughness adds to its charm. If you can't get enough of it, the zoo has launched a 24/7 online viewing platform at www.zoodio.live.
One of my favorite clips has to be a clip of her sleeping peacefully and blowing a snotty bubble:
