KUALA LUMPUR, MALAYSIA: A massive fire broke out in Putra Heights, Malaysia, on 1 April, with flames visible from Subang Jaya. The fire originated from a burst gas pipeline near the Petronas Putra Heights station in the Petaling district, according to the Smart Selangor Operation Centre (SSOC).

The Subang Jaya Fire and Rescue Station reported receiving a distress call at 8.10am. Firefighters from Subang Jaya, Shah Alam, and Puchong were deployed to control the blaze.

Subang Jaya MP Wong Chen confirmed in a statement that the fire was near the Petronas station but clarified that the station itself had not caught fire.

SSOC reported that the primary gas pipeline was burning and had since been shut off.

However, authorities are waiting for the remaining gas to burn out before the fire can be fully extinguished.

The situation escalated as flames spread to Kampung Kuala Sungai Baru, a nearby village, setting several houses on fire.

The exact number of affected homes is still being determined. Some residents were trapped inside their houses, prompting urgent rescue efforts by emergency responders.

Victims who have been rescued were taken to a temporary relief centre at Dewan Serbaguna Masjid Putra Heights. Several individuals suffered burns and are awaiting medical treatment, according to SSOC

A Bomba (Fire and Rescue Department) helicopter has been deployed to assist in firefighting efforts.

Community news platform SJ Echo shared a video of the blaze early in the morning, while many online posts claimed to have spotted the fire from as far as Subang and Puchong.
