A forklift operator was hospitalised on Monday, 25 November, after a shipping container fell on his vehicle at Pasir Panjang Terminal 3. The incident occurred at approximately 6.40 am in the container yard, according to PSA Singapore.
The 37-year-old forklift operator sustained injuries but was conscious when transported to the National University Hospital for treatment. PSA Singapore stated that it is extending support to the injured employee, while investigations into the incident are ongoing.
The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) reported receiving a call for assistance at 33 Harbour Drive at around 6.55 am. Emergency responders were dispatched promptly to the site.
Closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage of the accident circulated on social media, revealing the sequence of events.
The operator was lifting a single shipping container with the forklift when a nearby stack of five other containers shifted as the forklift reversed. Based on the footage, the containers may have been resting on the single container, causing them to be lifted as well by the forklift.
As a result, the stack of containers toppled, with one landing on the forklift’s cabin. The impact caused the driver to fall from the vehicle moments later.
PSA Singapore has not disclosed further details about the extent of the operator’s injuries but emphasised its commitment to supporting its staff and ensuring safety measures are in place.
