The Singapore Police Force (SPF) confirmed that the 32-year-old man was taken into custody for a rash act and suspected drug abuse.

The incident occurred at approximately 10.15am. According to the SPF, the man drove his lorry into the wall of the building at 19 Keppel Road, which houses the Jit Poh Building. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.

Shin Min Daily News reported that the lorry had ploughed into the building’s loading and unloading bay, partially blocking access. The driver, believed to have been acting erratically, was detained by the police shortly afterwards.

A cleaner working nearby told Shin Min that the impact damaged the building wall, and the lorry came to a halt obstructing the loading zone. The police cordoned off an alley beside the building to facilitate ongoing investigations.

At least three police vehicles and a team with police dogs were deployed to the scene. A passer-by who alerted Shin Min to the event observed a significant police presence in the alley next to the building by noon.

The alley remained closed for investigations until at least 2pm.

Another eyewitness, a migrant worker, said he heard loud shouting coming from the alley shortly after the crash. He did not know the cause of the commotion at the time.

Further reports indicated that after crashing the vehicle, the man went to the Bangladesh High Commission, located on the fourth floor of the Jit Poh Building. He allegedly caused a disturbance there before being apprehended.

In its statement to local media, the police clarified that the man’s suspected drug abuse case has been referred to the Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB). The SPF also noted that investigations into the full circumstances surrounding the incident are still underway.
