SINGAPORE: A 58-year-old man has been arrested after his younger brother was found dead in their Housing Board flat in Boon Lay on 11 March.
The police received a call for assistance at around 11:35 am and arrived at an 11th-floor unit in Block 187 Boon Lay Avenue.
There, they discovered a 56-year-old man lying motionless. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
According to preliminary investigations, the two men were known to each other.
Chinese daily Lianhe Zaobao reported that the deceased and the suspect were brothers. The 58-year-old man was arrested at the scene, and police investigations are ongoing.
Neighbours described the brothers as reclusive and said they rarely interacted with others in the estate.
One resident told Zaobao that while there were occasional sounds of shouting from the unit, nothing seemed unusual in the hours leading up to the incident.
“They mostly kept to themselves and did not engage much with the neighbours,” said a resident who declined to be named. “Sometimes we could hear shouting from their unit, but recently, everything seemed quiet.”
Another neighbour, who gave his surname as Wee, said he occasionally saw the arrested man and another woman in the lift. “Whenever I greeted them, they would either nod or completely ignore me,” he said.
“Over ten years ago, their father used to live with them, but I have not seen him in a long time.”
Neighbours also observed that the brothers rarely left their home and speculated that their mental health might not have been stable.
Their flat’s front door was usually locked, and there was little interaction with the community.
