KUALA LUMPUR, MALAYSIA: Police have confirmed the arrest of the son of a former Malaysian prime minister after drugs were discovered in his car along the Sprint Highway near the Damansara Toll Plaza on 23 August.
Selangor police chief Datuk Shazeli Kahar confirmed the arrest on 24 August but declined to release further details.
He said the individual was indeed the son of a former national leader, without disclosing his name or additional information.
The arrest was made during a crime prevention operation by Petaling Jaya police in the Damansara area. Officers reportedly discovered a small quantity of heroin and several items suspected to be drug-related paraphernalia.
Police indicated that the suspect had prior records related to drug offences.
The current case is being investigated under Section 39A(1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which covers possession of certain quantities of drugs that could imply trafficking.
Following the arrest, unverified information began circulating online.
Among these claims were that the suspect had been driving a Ferrari when stopped, and that 3.16 grams of heroin were seized, packaged in a packet labelled “MOTMOD”, together with straws, aluminium foil, and small containers.
A document resembling an official police report has also been widely shared on social media, though authorities have not confirmed its authenticity.
Additionally, images of a partially obscured MyKad identity card, allegedly belonging to the suspect, have gone viral, fuelling speculation about his identity.
Despite widespread online attention, police have urged caution, noting that investigations are ongoing and official details remain limited.
As of now, authorities have not confirmed any of the additional claims beyond the arrest and discovery of drugs in the vehicle.
The case has attracted significant public interest, given the suspect’s political lineage, though officials have emphasised that the investigation will proceed according to established legal processes.
