SINGAPORE: A 30-year-old Malaysian man was arrested for attempting to smuggle drugs, including around 1,402g of heroin, in a Malaysian-registered car arriving at Woodlands Checkpoint on the evening of 14 June 2025.
In a press release on Tuesday (17 June), the Immigration & Checkpoints Authority (ICA) said its officers had directed the vehicle for enhanced checks, during which they discovered a bundle suspected to contain controlled drugs hidden behind the car’s glove compartment.
Officers from the Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB) were immediately alerted and conducted further checks, which uncovered two more bundles from the same location within the car.
The three bundles were later found to contain approximately 1,402g of heroin, 495g of cannabis, and 115g of methamphetamine, commonly known as ‘Ice’.
According to authorities, the seized drugs have an estimated street value of over S$173,000 and could potentially sustain the addiction of about 800 abusers for a week.
Investigations are currently ongoing.
Under Singapore law, those found guilty of importing or exporting more than 15g of diamorphine (or pure heroin) may face the death penalty under Section 7 of the Misuse of Drugs Act 1973.
ICA said it will continue to work closely with CNB to prevent drug smuggling across Singapore’s borders.
Security checks at checkpoints will also remain in place to detect and prevent the smuggling of drugs, prohibited weapons, explosives, and other contraband items.
