Singaporean activist and founder of Love Aid Singapore, Gilbert Goh, announced that his organisation has partnered with another local charity, Aid for Gaza, to provide iftar meals for Palestinians living in southern Gaza.
The update was shared on the organisation’s Instagram on 12 March, where Goh highlighted that this is the first time in over 15 months of operating the Gaza Aid Fund that they have teamed up with another Singaporean group for a humanitarian effort in Gaza.
Aid for Gaza (AFG) is a Singapore-based charity that has been operating remotely for the past year.
Goh explained that such partnerships are rare for Love Aid Singapore due to organisational differences and past challenges with collaborative efforts.
“Past partnership experiences have also proven to be unpleasant and difficult so we prefer to work independently and decide goals and objectives very much on our own terms,” Goh said.
However, when the opportunity arose to fund a particular day of iftar through a long-time contact, Goh decided to give it a try.
He expressed hope that this partnership will become more regular and solidified moving forward, especially since Love Aid Singapore currently has no food programme in southern Gaza.
“Everything will finally hinge on the availability of funds and resources,” Goh said, cautioning that the charity does not want to spread itself too thin with multiple ongoing projects.
In Ramadan last year, Goh successfully raised a total of US$60,000 within just two days. The funds were used to provide iftar meals for approximately 3,000 Palestinians across two kitchens in Jabalia and Rafah.
Looking ahead, Love Aid Singapore has budgeted US$100,000 for iftar during Ramadan 2025, aiming to support both northern and southern Gaza kitchens.
Goh also mentioned upcoming initiatives, including a polyclinic and orphanage project, which will require continuous financial support to ensure their sustainability.
“Being a prudent person, I am cautious in how I finance projects, always saving enough so that we can tide over at least a year of expenditure without any new funds coming in,” he added.
Despite the partnership with AFG, Love Aid Singapore’s own iftar food aid programme will continue.
Goh also mentioned plans for a mass iftar for 500 people in collaboration with AFG, with details to be shared once confirmed.
However, he acknowledged the ongoing challenge of a severe food shortage in Gaza due to the aid blockade.
“The main issue now is the lack of meat in the Gaza strip as the aid blockade has prevented many food items from entering.”
In closing, Goh thanked Singaporeans for their continued support, stating, “Thank you Singaporeans for standing on the right side of humanity with me.”
