Before the Star Awards last Sunday (April 21), veteran actress Jin Yinji had been widely tipped to win Best Supporting Actress for her moving performance in Cash On Delivery. So you can imagine the 76-year-old’s dismay when she went home empty-handed. The award eventually went to Aileen Tan for her villainous turn in SHERO.

High Expectations and Disappointment

Jin Yinji, known for her remarkable acting career, had high expectations for the award. She appeared on the cover of a magazine, and several publications named her the hot favorite. She even prepared her acceptance speech. However, fate had other plans, and the award slipped through her fingers.

A Difficult Year

The past six months have been tough for Yinji. Her husband of 51 years, Anthony Lee, passed away from a heart attack at home last October at the age of 85. The grief weighed heavily on her, but the nomination for Best Supporting Actress gave her something to look forward to. She hoped that winning the award would help her get over her husband’s passing more quickly and show her late husband and two grandsons, her biggest supporters, that she still had what it takes to win awards.

Taking the Loss in Stride

Despite the disappointment, Jin Yinji is taking the loss in her stride. She remains resilient and determined. “I will continue working hard and try again next time,” she said. Unlike some artists who win Top 10 awards quickly, Yinji waited more than three decades before clinching her first award. Her last win was in 2021 when she took home the Best Evergreen Artiste and Top 10 awards. She believes that life must go on, and she won’t dwell on the unpleasant things.

In summary, Jin Yinji’s journey at the Star Awards 2024 was filled with anticipation, disappointment, and resilience. Despite missing out on the award, her enduring spirit and dedication to her craft continue to inspire fans and fellow artists alike.
