Jetstar Asia has announced it will permanently cease operations from 31 July 2025, marking the end of more than two decades as one of Asia’s pioneering low-cost carriers. The decision, made by shareholders Qantas Group and Westbrook Investments, comes in response to mounting operational costs and increasing competition in the region.
Over the next seven weeks, the Singapore-based airline (flight code 3K) will continue to operate with a progressively reduced short-haul international schedule before winding down completely. The move does not affect Jetstar Airways (JQ) in Australia and New Zealand or Jetstar Japan (GK), both of which will continue normal operations, including services between Australia and Singapore.
Despite consistently strong customer service ratings and on-time performance, Jetstar Asia has struggled to absorb rising supplier expenses, airport fees, and aviation charges. These cost pressures have made it difficult for the airline to sustain its low-fares model, which has been central to its mission since its launch in December 2004. The airline has since served over 50 million passengers across the region.
Jetstar Asia’s 13 aircraft will be gradually redeployed across the Qantas Group to support growth and fleet renewal efforts in Australia and New Zealand.
Customer and Employee Support
Customers booked on Jetstar Asia flights before 31 July 2025 can expect schedule changes and will be contacted directly with alternative flight options or a full refund. For bookings beyond the closure date, full refunds will be issued.
A dedicated webpage on Jetstar official website has been set up to assist customers, and ongoing updates will be posted via the airline’s Travel Alert.
Jetstar Asia’s team of over 500 employees will be provided with retrenchment packages, employment support, and where possible, new opportunities within the Qantas Group or with aviation partners in Singapore.
The Qantas Group has committed to supporting Jetstar Asia through its wind-down, ensuring continued compliance with operational and customer obligations throughout the closure process.
