The Institution of Engineers, Singapore (IES) successfully wrapped up its IES Charity Golf 2025 at Sentosa Golf Club, raising an impressive $230,000 to advance engineering education and support individuals with cerebral palsy. The event concluded with a celebratory dinner graced by Mr. Seah Kian Peng, Speaker of Parliament, as Guest-of-Honour.
Driving Change Through Inclusive Engineering Education
A significant portion of the funds—$180,000—will go toward the IES Scholarship Fund, which will award its first-ever six bond-free scholarships to aspiring engineers this year. Beneficiaries include two students each from the Institute of Technical Education (ITE), polytechnics, and universities across Singapore.
Launched in July 2024, the fund aims to uplift at least 35 students over six years, focusing on youth from lower-income backgrounds who are pursuing careers as engineers, engineering technologists, or technicians. As Singapore’s national society of engineers, IES is committed to nurturing local talent to build a smarter and more sustainable nation.
IES’s long-standing support for engineering education also includes the YC Wong–IES Research in Construction Project Management Fund, which awarded $650,000 to Nanyang Technological University (NTU) and National University of Singapore (NUS) to drive research in construction innovation. Since 1985, IES has also partnered with Yayasan Mendaki to present annual scholarships to outstanding Malay-Muslim engineering students, highlighting the organization’s dedication to diversity and equal opportunity.
Giving Back to the Cerebral Palsy Community
Beyond education, IES continues to advocate for social inclusion. From this year’s Charity Golf funds, $50,000 was donated to the Cerebral Palsy Alliance Singapore (CPAS) to support its mission of empowering persons with cerebral palsy and multiple disabilities. The cheque was presented to Dr. Janice Wong, Chairperson of CPAS, during the Charity Golf Dinner.
IES’s philanthropic legacy spans over four decades, with support extended to various causes such as the Moral Home for the Aged Sick and the Children’s Charities Association of Singapore—reflecting the institution’s broader mission of engineering a better society.
