At a Glance

Hougang United enter the new season refreshed and rebuilt, following a major overhaul both on the pitch and in the backroom. With a new coach and younger players, the club is focused on development, alignment and building a strong team identity that can grow over time. Guided by a coach with deep roots in youth football, Hougang will aim to establish cultural standards, nurture young players, and forge a competitive playing style that reflects their ambition to rise from a year of transition.

From the Camp

Al-Ameen Maricar, Head Coach

On moulding Hougang’s new-look squad
“Development is about creating an environment where players feel both supported and challenged. I place a strong emphasis on giving young players responsibility and pushing them in training. At the same time, having a clear structure allows me to guide them step by step.”

On culture and identity
“Our priority has been to set strong cultural foundations — accountability, respect and responsibility. Tactically, we want to be organised, proactive and brave both in and out of possession. We are working towards building a strong identity, and that comes from being consistent in both training and matches.”

On season expectations
“We all know this season will be challenging because it is a brand-new team. Our aim is to build on last season’s foundation and push to finish at least in the top half of the table.”

Nur Iffah Amrin, Captain & Centre-back

On working with Coach Ameen
“I’ve trained with Coach Ameen before, so we already understand each other. That helps, but this is a new team and I want to build our identity together with him and my teammates. He expects me to step up and take on more responsibility because he knows how I approach training. I also see my role as helping to rally the team, communicate with him, and act as a bridge between the players and Coach.”

On building a new team identity
“Identity is very important because it shapes how we play and our team dynamics. Being open with one another will help us learn and gel faster. We come from different backgrounds and playing styles, so understanding each other’s strengths and weaknesses will help us grow together.”

On her goals for the season
“My goal is to stay consistent and step out of my comfort zone by taking on more responsibility. I also want to grow closer as a team. Meeting new faces will help me develop both as a player and as a person, especially in improving how I communicate with others.”
