GE2025: Five parties set for rally night on 24 April

SINGAPORE: The first five rallies of Singapore’s 2025 General Election will take place on Thursday night (24 April), marking the return of physical election rallies since 2015.

The rallies will be held by the People’s Power Party (PPP), Progress Singapore Party (PSP), People’s Action Party (PAP), Workers’ Party (WP), and Singapore Democratic Party (SDP).

According to the police, permits were granted for these events, which will run from 7pm to 10pm.

PAP and SDP

Prime Minister Lawrence Wong and his PAP team for Marsiling-Yew Tee GRC will campaign at Woodlands Stadium.

He is joined by Senior Minister of State for Defence and Manpower Zaqy Mohamad, Alex Yam, and Hany Soh.

Meanwhile, the SDP team, contesting against the PAP in Marsiling-Yew Tee GRC, will hold its rally at Choa Chu Kang Stadium.

The SDP’s lineup includes organising secretary Jufri Salim, Wake Up Singapore founder Ariffin Sha, theatre director Alec Tok, and Dr Gigene Wong.

PPP

The PPP will hold its rally at Temasek Junior College for Tampines GRC, which is set for a four-way contest among PAP, WP, PPP, and the National Solidarity Party (NSP).

PPP’s slate for Tampines includes party chief Goh Meng Seng, chairman Derrick Sim, landscaping executive Vere Nathan, green tech firm founder Peter Soh, and entrepreneur Arbaah Haroun.

PSP’s First Physical Rally

Jeffrey Khoo, PSP’s candidate for Marymount SMC, will host the party’s first-ever physical rally at Catholic High School, where he is running against PAP’s incumbent MP Gan Siow Huang.

In a Facebook update on Wednesday evening, PSP announced that this would be their first physical rally.

In addition to inviting residents of Marymount SMC, the party also extended invitations to those from Kebun Baru SMC and “supporters from all over Singapore.”

WP

The WP team for Sengkang GRC will hold their rally on a field along Anchorvale Crescent, near The Vales condominium.

The team includes He Ting Ru, Louis Chua, Associate Professor Jamus Lim, and newcomer Abdul Muhaimin Abdul Malik.

They will face a largely fresh PAP slate consisting of former Senior Minister of State Lam Pin Min, Bernadette Giam, Theodora Lai, and Associate Professor Elmie Nekmat.

Public Advisory on Traffic and Security for Rally Night

The police have issued an advisory for attendees, residents, and motorists in the vicinity of the rally sites.

With large crowds expected, the public is strongly encouraged to take public transport.

Traffic diversions, lane closures, and slower-moving traffic are anticipated.

Security checks may be conducted at and around the rally venues.

Attendees are advised not to bring bulky bags or prohibited items, such as weapons, glass bottles, signal flares, flammable materials, laser pointers, and canned drinks.
