Four Singaporeans – three men and one woman – were arrested following the seizure of drugs valued at over S$1 million in a Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB) operation on 4 January 2025.
The operation took place in the vicinity of Cassia Crescent, Geylang, and led to the confiscation of various drugs, including heroin, methamphetamine (Ice), cannabis, Ecstasy, and Erimin-5 tablets.
The operation began in the afternoon when CNB officers arrested two men, aged 27 and 25, at a carpark near Cassia Crescent.
During the arrests, a third man, also aged 25, fled the scene but was apprehended after a short pursuit. The authorities seized a weapon from the fleeing suspect, which was handed over to the police.
The 27-year-old suspect was found in possession of 1,855g of heroin, 1,032g of Ice, 98g of Ecstasy tablets, and 300 Erimin-5 tablets. The 25-year-old man accompanying him was found with 136g of Ice and 21g of cannabis.
Subsequently, CNB officers raided a nearby residential unit believed to be the 27-year-old’s hideout. Inside, they arrested a 25-year-old woman suspected of drug abuse.
The raid uncovered an additional 73g of Ice, 21g of heroin, 20 Erimin-5 tablets, and a small quantity of Ecstasy tablets.
CNB stated on 6 January that the drugs seized could have fueled the addiction of approximately 4,590 abusers for a week. The bureau reiterated that trafficking or preparing to traffic controlled drugs is a serious offence under Singapore law.
In Singapore, those convicted of trafficking over 15g of pure heroin, 250g of Ice, or 500g of cannabis may face the mandatory death penalty.
Deputy Assistant Commissioner Aaron Tang, CNB’s director of intelligence, emphasised the severe societal impact of drug trafficking. He stated, “Drug traffickers have no concern for the thousands of lives that their deadly ware will destroy had the drugs gone onto the streets.”
Tang highlighted CNB’s dual approach of stringent enforcement and preventive education, aiming to safeguard individuals and families from the destructive effects of drug abuse. “For those who choose not to heed our warnings, CNB will relentlessly pursue them and bring them to justice,” he warned.
