Fresh off a one-week break to usher in the Singapore Cup, the Singapore Premier League returns for another exciting round of action in Matchweek 25. Balestier Khalsa kicks off proceedings with an away trip to Brunei’s Hassanal Bolkiah National Stadium on Friday, with Tigers relishing their chances against a Brunei DPMM side who have yet to register their first win of the year. Meanwhile, another side that would be looking to open their account for the year is BG Tampines Rovers, as they face Young Lions at the Jalan Besar Stadium on Saturday, with the Stags desperate to gain ground on the Lion City Sailors at the summit.

The Sailors themselves host a revitalised Tanjong Pagar United side at the Bishan Stadium on the same day, who will be out to prove a point against the league leaders after a string of much-improved performances in their past few games. In the final match of the week, Geylang International fly west to face Albirex Niigata, as the Eagles hope to shake off the dust from their tough loss against the Sailors last week.

Syukri Noorhaizam is ruled out of the match.

Masahiro Sugita is a doubt.

  • DPMM’s last league victory over Balestier came in September 2019, having failed to beat the Tigers in their five previous attempts.

  • Balestier has kept two clean sheets in their 21 league games this season – with both coming against Tanjong Pagar United, whereas DPMM’s only clean sheet this season came against Albirex Niigata.

  • The Tigers are one of only two sides to have scored in every league match this season, alongside BG Tampines. Only Geylang International and Lion City Sailors have scored more than their 31 away goals.

  • Young Lions sit bottom of the league table on home form so far, having only picked up eight points and suffering six defeats.

  • Young Lions’ 2-2 draw earlier in the season denied BG Tampines their 14th consecutive victory in this fixture. Their last triumph over their opponents dates back to August 2018, when they secured a 2-1 over the Stags

  • Only Shawal Anuar and Tomoyuki Doi have outscored new Stags recruit Itsuki Enomoto’s 9 away goals this season, with the Japanese forward also netting for the Young Lions when the two sides met last September.

  • The Sailors are currently on a four-game winning run and are on course to secure five consecutive league wins in a season for the first time since September 2023.

  • Sailors top scorer Lennart Thy has either scored or assisted in nine of his last 10 league matches.

  • Albirex have won four and only lost one of their last five home games, but Geylang has yet to lose on the road this season.

  • Geylang hitman Tomoyuki Doi has scored in each of his six away games, producing 10 goals and three assists.

  • Albirex top-scorer Shingo Nakano has drawn a blank in his last two league games, but the Japanese has never gone three games without a goal since joining the club.
