SINGAPORE, 24 JULY 2025 – The stage is set for the 2025/26 season of the Singapore Premier League (SPL), with the campaign set to kick off on 16 August 2025 with the traditional season curtain raiser, the Community Shield.
Reigniting a familiar rivalry, Lion City Sailors and BG Tampines Rovers will face off at Jurong East Stadium in a rematch of last season’s Singapore Cup Final, which saw the Sailors edge out the Stags 1-0 in a tightly contested affair. The Community Shield – a one-off clash with no league points on offer – not only kicks off the domestic football season but also serves as an early litmus test between two of the league’s fiercest contenders.
The SPL season will begin a week later, on 23 August 2025, with Albirex Niigata (S) hosting Balestier Khalsa at Jurong East Stadium. Kick-off is scheduled for 7.30pm, consistent with all SPL matches throughout the season, which will take place between Fridays and Mondays.
Following its transition to the European football calendar last season, the SPL will continue to run from August to May, aligning local fixtures with international football schedules.
The 2025/26 SPL season will see a total of eight clubs taking part in a triple round-robin format with each team playing a total of 21 matches.
As in previous years, every match will be broadcasted LIVE on Singtel TV and StarHub TV, as well as live streamed via Mediacorp’s meWATCH platform and the SPL YouTube channel, allowing fans across the island to catch all the action.
The SPL season will pause as usual for the FIFA international window in October, as the Men’s National Team gears up for a crucial double-header against India, as they push for a historic qualification for the AFC Asian Cup.
The league season proper will pause for a longer period between November and December, for the Singapore Cup that kicks off on 31 October, and culminates with the Cup Final on 20 December.
This period also coincides with a busy period in the international calendar that includes a FIFA international window from 10 to 18 November, and the 33rd SEA Games taking place in Thailand from 9 to 20 December.
