The Football Association of Singapore (FAS) held its annual Grassroots Football Day at Jalan Besar Stadium on Saturday, 17 May, in celebration of both AFC Grassroots Football Day and the inaugural World Football Day, which falls on 25 May.

This year’s edition was themed “United Through Football”, highlighting the sport’s unique ability to bring people together across different ages, backgrounds, and abilities.

A key highlight was a football clinic for 80 children aged 6 to 12, featuring participants from the FAS Girl Cubs Programme, Catch Them Young Limited, and Impart Limited. The children were led through engaging training sessions by a mix of current and former national players — including Baihakki Khaizan, Joseph Pragasam, Adam Xu; and Lionesses Farhanah Ruhaizat and Siti Rosnani Azman, who serves as captain of the women’s national team.

They were supported by FAS grassroots coaches and a team of volunteers from insurance company MSIG.

FAS Vice President and National Team Captain Hariss Harun, as well as FAS Council Member Aleksandar Duric, were present to launch the event. They shared personal reflections on their grassroots beginnings and the importance of family and community in shaping their football journeys.

While the kids enjoyed a series of football-themed activity stations on the pitch, their parents attended a Safe Sport Awareness Workshop conducted in partnership with the Safe Sport Commission. The session focused on creating safe, respectful, and supportive environments in youth sport — a key pillar of FAS’ commitment to child safeguarding.

Grassroots Football Day 2025 offered more than just a chance to play — it brought families, coaches, volunteers, and communities together in support of the next generation of footballers.

FAS extends its sincere thanks to the Safe Sport Commission and MSIG for their continued support in building a safer, more inclusive football community in Singapore.
