Escape the city for a day and visit one of the most beautiful castles in Europe, surrounded by the lush Eltz Forest. If you have a rental car, take a 1.5-hour drive and park directly on the castle grounds. Otherwise, travellers can take the train to Hatzenport and subsequently the bus 365. The remarkable 11th century castle has remained in the ownership of the Eltz family, who has resided here for the last 850 years. Point to note: the castle is only open for tours between early April and November.
